About Central Marbella

Marbella is one of the most famous places on earth. It has been considered the jewel in the Costa del Sol’s crown since the 1950s’, when Prince Alfonso Hohenlohe opened the Marbella Club Hotel, which forever changed the once sleepy fishing village into a jet set playground for his aristocratic friends.

Confirming its high-standing amongst tourists, Marbella was named as the Best European Destination 2022 and again in 2024. The accolade was awarded by travellers who ranked Marbella above big names like Monaco, Florence, Monte Carlo and Capri, out of 500 international destinations.

The award was judged on access to outdoor activities, golf courses, all-year-round weather, Blue Flag beaches, gastronomy and quality of life. As more and more people have become aware of Marbella’s wonderful attributes the city has grown in popularity attracting an ever-growing number of international visitors and buyers who have fallen in love with the region and want to find the right property for sale in Marbella.

Municipality of Marbella

The municipality of Marbella spans the stretch of coastline from CaboPino (Marbella East) to Guadalmina, it also includes Nueva Andalucia and Puerto Banus. Marbella spans 117 kms with 26 kms of beautiful coastline of sunny beaches, bustling towns, highly sought-after residential areas, where you find the most expensive and sought-after luxury villas for sale in Marbella, such Sierra Blanca, Nagüeles, the Golden Mile, Elviria and Los Monteros and plenty more. In addition to these exclusive areas, you will find vibrant traditional towns and neighbourhoods, such as San Pedro de Alcantara and of course Marbella’s charming Old Town, providing a flavour of a time gone by, yet with all the mod cons required for today’s busy lifestyles.

Marbella Old Town

Let’s start with the Old Town, a trip down the narrow, cobbled streets lined with pretty white buildings festooned with bougainvillea is like travelling back in time. History buffs can explore the remnants of a Moorish castle and Marbella’s most picturesque square, Plaza de los Naranjos. Private houses, restaurants, tapas bars, cafes, shops and hotels nestle together, creating a fragrant cornucopia for the senses.

It is here in the Old Town that you’ll find La Fonda Heritage Relais & Chateau luxury boutique hotel. There are many other 5*hotels in Marbella, including the aforementioned iconic Marbella Club Hotel and Puente Romano Beach Resort and Nobu Hotel on the Golden Mile and the Hotel Don Pepe and El Fuerte on the promenade and in central Marbella respectively.

Gastronomy

Incredibly, there are 17 Michelin-starred restaurants in Marbella and the local vicinity, offering those who appreciate exquisite food and superb service an enviable choice of dining options. There is something to suit every palette, modern and traditional, ranging from Argentinian to Andalusian influenced food, as served by Málaga born Michelin-starred Daní Garcia.

Yet, it is all about fine dining, there are plenty of options for casual dining, in the many restaurants serving everything from posh pizza at Roostiq to Asian, fusion, international and Italian. Alternatively, head to the many chiringuitos for traditional dishes, including delicious fresh fish and seafood.

Avenida del Mar

Playa la Bajadilla (beach) is 5 minutes’ walk from the Old Town, and one the most enjoyable routes is via Avenida del Mar, which is adorned with weird and wonderful sculptures by Spanish surrealist artist Savaldor Dalí.

Paseo Maritimo

Marbella’s beautiful promenade runs 6km along the beach and is wide enough comfortably accommodate cyclists, joggers, walkers and other sports. As you stroll along, there is plenty of opportunity to soak up the sites, imagine owning a spectacular beachfront Marbella property, check out the hotels and exclusive developments.
